Jack LaLanne, the Real Exercise Guru!

Many of our readers remember seeing fitness expert Jack LaLanne’s TV program, a daily dose of exercise and health tips! But I’m sure some readers were born after Mr. LaLanne’s era. Here are some links for more information on the amazing Jack LaLanne:

Reader Jody Langford (of Jody Langford Photography) was acquainted with Jack and Elaine Lalanne and has some stories to tell: “I dropped by to check on him and Elaine one day and Elaine was out front. She asked if I wanted to go in and see Jack. He was inside swimming laps in his pool (a ten foot long pool with current that you can swim against). He was 90 at the time. Went inside… Jack was in the pool swimming against the current in his birthday suit! Lol!!!!! He got out in all his wrinkly glory to say hi and shake my hand. Sheesh… I was a tad embarrassed.

“Pretty funny because I was in uniform in my duties as a Highway Patrol officer.

“He never showed up at an appointment once so his worried wife called the highway patrol and we started looking for him. I found him driving around in his red Corvette sightseeing. He had forgotten about his appointment. Even at the age of 90 he was flirting with the girls as if was still a teenager. They showed me his museum at his house of all the exercise equipment he had designed and built in the 30s-60s. The stuff in the modern gyms of today doesn’t look much different. If I remember correctly he said he never got patents on his stuff because he didn’t want any restrictions on people being fit.“
