It was longer than a few weeks, wasn’t it?
More like six weeks, I think, but finally, in September 2019, Lum made it onto the stage at the Skyway in Memphis, only to be embarrassed by his putrid performance!
Yes, I am the one playing the horrible saxophone solo!
I played tenor sax in junior high, high school, and college, and from circa 1991 to 1996, I played in an East Texas orchestra called The Sounds of Swing.
My poor old Martin saxophone hadn’t been played since 1997 (the last time I performed at church) when I picked it up to become Lum’s “saxophone voice.”
I purposely played badly, which wasn’t difficult to do!
Any time I played something with a melody, I did so with no rehearsal at all! And I did so “by ear,” purposely fumbling and bending notes out of tune!
I had a blast!
