Around this time in 2013, I was preparing to edit the first book collection of Lum and Abner comic strips. I wanted an image for the front and back covers. Michael Ambrose, my editor over at Argo Press (non-L&A publication) suggested it might be a good idea to produce some strips to introduce newer readers to some of the history of Lum and Abner. Additionally, I had some one-shot strips in mind, so I decided to start a series called “Ends and Odds,” alternating a page on Lum and Abner history and/or character studies with one-page gags. A strip you will see soon provided the image I wanted for those book covers,
