A Tribute to Miss Barbara Fuller!
Actress Barbara Fuller, sometimes credited as Barbra Fuller, was the National Lum and Abner Society Convention Guest in June 2000! While she never worked with Lum and Abner, she did co-star on The Opie Cates Show on ABC Radio! Written by Lum and Abner head-writer Roswell B. Rogers, the show starred the comical-musical genius Opie Cates who is remembered by Lum and Abner fans as the leader of the orchestra and supporting actor during much of their half-hour series on CBS! A supporting player in The Opie Cates Show was famed silent movie actor Francis X. Bushman as Barbara’s dad and Opie’s boss! Our comic strip character Fulla Brushman is based on Barbara, with her name being a triple pun on Fuller, the old Fuller Brush Man salesmen, and Francis X. Bushman! (Yeah, this is deep, folks!)
