It was 10 years ago!

Yes, it’s time for another anniversary in 2025! We’re actually a bit late for the actual anniversary, but we wanted to present these in order. It was 10 years ago on Saturday, June 6, 2015 that the National Lum and Abner Society held what may turn out to be its final NLAS Convention in Mena, Arkansas! We had the last of our annual events in 2005, but put on a sort of “NLAS Reunion” in 2011, and then another NLAS Convention in 2015! Our special guests, John Rose and Mike Curtis, were invited for their comic strip connections to rural humor as well as Lum and Abner! Cartoonist John Rose took over the comic strip Barney Google and Snuffy Smith in 2001. The strip was mentioned in the Lum and Abner radio show, and John included Lum and Abner as one of Snuffy’s favorite radio shows in a Sunday page! Writer Mike Curtis and artist Joe Staton created a Sunday Dick Tracy strip in 2014 featuring Lum and Abner! In turn, both Rose and Curtis were featured in a Lum and Abner comic strip as part of a story in which “the old fellows” travel via a time machine to visit the 2015 Lum and Abner Festival! The NLAS Ossifers plus Mike Curtis and John Rose along with “Coffee” (of comic strip cameo fame) performed some scripts onstage at the Lyric Theater a.k.a. The Ouachita Little Theatre. Both “Uncle Donnie” and John Rose performed cartoon sketching programs.

There was no issue of The Jot ‘Em Down Journal to commemorated this event, and the original web page from 2015 is long gone (thanks to our former provider), but be sure to visit the
Facebook album of photos and captions which can be viewed HERE!
